縛山魈
湖州孫葉飛先生，掌教雲南，素豪於飲。中秋夕，招諸生飲於樂志堂，月色大明，忽几上有聲，如大石崩壓之狀。正愕視間，門外有怪，頭戴紅緯帽，黑瘦如猴，頸下綠毛茸茸然，以一足跳躍而至。見諸客方飲，大笑去，聲如裂竹。人皆指為山魈，不敢近前。伺其所往，則闖入右首廚房。廚者醉臥床上，山魈揭帳視之，又笑不止。眾大呼，廚人驚醒見怪，即持木棍毆擊，山魈亦伸臂作攫搏狀。廚夫素勇，手抱怪腰，同滾地上。眾人各持刀棍來助，斫之不入。棍擊良久，漸漸縮小，面目模糊，變一肉團；乃以繩捆於柱，擬天明將投之江。
至雞鳴時，又復几上有極大聲響，急往視之，怪已不見。地上遺緯帽一頂，乃書院生徒朱某之物。方知院中秀才往往失帽，皆此怪所竊。而此怪好戴緯帽，亦不可解。

In a corpus of ca. 3100 stories from the strange tales collections Zibuyu, Xu Zibuyu, Yuewei caotangbiji, Liaozhai zhiyi, Yetan suilu, Ershilu and Xieduo an LDA-based topic modeling algorithm was asked to identify exactly 50 topics. The algorithm calculated the probability of each of the 50 topics to appeaer in each of the stories. Below are given the Top 5 topics in decending order of their probabilities for the story above. Probabilities are indicated with percentage numbers.
